Why Nilai

A few things that distinguish how we work, for those considering whether Nilai is the right fit.

Plain language throughout

We do not use jargon as a shorthand for expertise. Every concept is set out in ordinary English, with enough context to be genuinely useful.

Small, unhurried groups

Group programmes are kept to twelve participants. There is time for questions, for discussion, and for a pace that feels considered rather than rushed.

No products to sell

Nilai is an educational business. We do not recommend or distribute financial products. The curriculum serves the learner, not a sales target.

Grounded in Singapore

The curriculum is shaped around CPF, SGS bonds, Singapore Savings Bonds, and the particular retirement picture facing Singapore households in their forties and fifties.

Written materials included

Participants receive printed readers and, in the bespoke programme, a written summary after each conversation — a record of what was discussed and what was decided.

Paced for adult learners

Sessions are structured so that someone who has not studied finance before can follow along without difficulty, and someone who has some knowledge is still engaged.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions we hear most often from those considering a programme.

Do I need any prior knowledge of finance to join a group programme?

No prior knowledge is expected or assumed. The group programmes are designed for people who would describe themselves as reasonably organised in daily life but who have not previously studied household finance or investing in any structured way. Those with some existing knowledge tend to find the curriculum useful for filling in gaps and reviewing their thinking.

What is the difference between the group programmes and the bespoke track?

The group programmes work through a fixed curriculum alongside other participants and are more suited to those who want a general grounding. The Steady Household Track is entirely private and shaped by your household's particular circumstances — the conversations go wherever they are most needed, and the programme is built around what matters to you.

Are the programmes held in person or online?

Group programmes are currently held in person at our seminar room in Bukit Pasoh. The bespoke programme can be conducted in person or via a video call, depending on what suits the household. We will advise on the current schedule when you enquire.

Does Nilai give financial advice or recommend specific products?

Nilai is an educational business and does not give financial advice, nor does it recommend or distribute financial products of any kind. The programmes are designed to help you understand the landscape clearly so that you can make your own decisions, whether or not you go on to work with a licensed financial adviser.

How are payments handled, and what is the cancellation policy?

Payment details and cancellation terms are provided when you enquire and confirm a place. We aim to be straightforward about these matters. Places are limited, so we do ask that those who reserve a spot let us know in good time if their plans change.

Is CPF covered in the programmes?

CPF is covered in the household group programme as one of four weekly topics, specifically as the household's first pension layer. It is also discussed in depth within the bespoke programme where retirement planning is a central concern. The investor curriculum touches on CPF investment schemes in the context of a broader household investment picture.

What happens in the bespoke programme regarding wills and lasting powers of attorney?

The Steady Household Track includes guidance on what a will does and what it should typically address, and similarly covers the lasting power of attorney as a document that households in their forties and fifties would be wise to consider. Nilai does not draft legal documents — we help you understand what is needed so that you can work with an appropriate professional with confidence and clear instructions.
